Wrangle for a Jeep to Support Kids' Hospital

Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett has teamed up with a New England custom auto shop to support cancer care at Children’s Hospital Boston, and Peabody residents can join in on the cause this weekend at the Northshore Mall .

The Josh Beckett Foundation and After FX Customs are offering an “Ultimate Jeep Raffle” in which one lucky grand prizewinner can take home a brand new 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited. The proceeds from the tickets – at $100 each – will benefit the hospital.

On Saturday, the Jeep will arrive at the mall at 10 a.m. along with raffle tickets for sale until the mall’s normal closing time Sunday night. There are a grand total of 2,000 tickets available.

After FX did make some custom modifications to the Jeep, including a full JL Audio sound system with an Alpine DVD/Navigation head unit, four 20-inch KMC wheels with Nitto tires, multiple exterior upgrades and more to ogle at.

The drawing for the Jeep will be held during this year’s Beckett Bowl on Aug. 29 at Lucky Strike Lanes in Boston.

Second prize is two Monster seat tickets to the Sept. 17 Red Sox game and an authentic jersey signed by Beckett. Third prize is just the signed jersey.

I'm going to say this once more. As much as we try, we cannot bring the Indian community under one umbrella to act together. It's a pipe dream and not achievable. I've experienced every possible Indian specimen there is in the Bay Area. Indian community in US can NEVER be like the jewish or hispanic community. What we need is representation in the corridor of power (AKA Congress/ Senate), period. No number of phone calls from mere mortals like us will equate to one phone call from big-wigs such as Vinod Khosla or Indra Nooyi. I approached the CEO of my company to raise my concern. My CEO was graceful and said that the government relations team in my org was already working in Washington D.C to address retrogression issues. I was given an internal point of contact who briefed me on the effort. Call it their need or greed, the "white man" seems to be more helpful in this regard. The wait was long (PD : May 2002 , GC AD : June 2007). The initial stage (2002 to 2004) was carefree (not worried about GC. More focussed on establishing career). The middle stage (2005 to 2006) was painful. We were in the I485 stage for almost 3 years. Then the final stage (2006 onwards) was carefree again. We had given up on the GC process and had decided that it will come when it has to come. We even bought a house in 2006 and decided to live life as we always wanted to. And then suddenly the GC arrived in June 2007 (interestingly there was no email .. nor any LUDs). 2. PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS. If you are without insurance for some time period that time period is deducted from the typical 6 month or so waiting period of coverage of pre-existing conditions. But I think even in this case there is some grace period of 30-60 days. I suspect if you were covered 30-60 days prior to start of coverage by an employer sponsored plan, then the waiting period is waived. but you need to read the fine print for this. Yes! An employer can chose not to sponsor a H1B and hire a USC or GC holder for various reasons (for examples companies dont hire H1b's for positions when they are laying off ). AFAIK, EEO doesnt consider a H1B applicant in the aspect you are talking. When EEO talks about National Origin, it is talking about any discrimination faced by you in case if you are denied a job given that you are Indian/Chinese/whatever. H1b body shopping is not a proper business model, these people are utilizing the loophole in the skilled immigration system and making money and become rich overnight.
