Want to watch fireworks from Naperville's carillon?

The Naperville Millennium Carillon Foundation is selling raffle tickets for coveted seats near the top of Moser Tower along the city’s downtown Riverwalk on the evening of July 4. The raffle ticket sales will continue through Monday, June 27.

Not only will the winners get a bird’s-eye view of Naperville’s pyrotechnics, but they’ll also get a great look at displays from many neighboring communities.

“It’s a unique opportunity,” Carillon Foundation board member Chuck Seidel said. “There’s not too many places you can go in Naperville where you’re 16 stories up and right next to the fireworks.”

“The first year we stood there with our jaws dropped,” Seidel said. “There’s fireworks 360 degrees around for miles and miles. It’s spectacular.”

For the fourth time, the foundation, in conjunction with Naperville Park District, will raffle off the 22 available seats to five lucky winners, four of whom will be allotted four seats each with one grand prize winner receiving six.

The 2011 raffle winners will also hear a performance of patriotic duets from 8:45 to 9:20 p.m., before the start of the fireworks display.

“When you’re up on top of the tower, you’re not just seeing the fireworks from Ribfest,” said Fred Gusel, superintendent of recreational services at the park district. “You have a 360 view of every community in eyeshot.”

For the first time, the foundation also is offering interested individuals the option to purchase raffle tickets online via a PayPal account.

“We’re really trying to promote it and having them available online is certainly more convenient,” Seidel said.

In years past the raffle raised close to $1,200 to aid the operating costs of the Carillon Foundation, Seidel said.

Tickets may be purchased at the Naperville Park District headquarters, 320 W. Jackson Ave.; the Carillon Visitor Center, 455 Aurora Ave.; or on the Carillon Foundation’s website for $5 each or $10 for three.

Seidel hopes that by opening the tickets up to online purchasers and offering year-round raffle sales, people may use the tickets as stocking stuffers or small gifts for friends.

“It’s a wonderful viewing experience because it’s so intimate,” Gusel said. “You’re not sitting on the ground with 10,000 other people. You have your own private viewing.”

Parts of Mid-Columbia can have fireworks

With the Fourth of July near, many Tri-Citians will begin stocking up on fireworks to put on their own Independence Day show.

Sales and discharging of fireworks begin Tuesday in the state but only are allowed in some areas of the Tri-Cities.

Residents in Franklin County -- including Pasco -- and those in Kennewick and Prosser are banned from having fireworks of any kind.
