Games Inbox: Sonic's anniversary, App Store inevitability, and Xbox imports

I realise it's a day late now but just wanted to wish Sonic the Hedgehog a very happy birthday. I know he's had some rough times over the years, but it looks like he's back on the wagon now and I've really enjoyed his last couple of games and I'm now properly optimistic about Generations (instead of just knowing I was fooling myself, like I did with previous games). But what I still don't understand is why his only team-up with Mario has been those boring Olympics games. If Nintendo and Sega are willing to do a crossover why on earth don't they give us the action or role-playing game that would really please the fans? Imagine Kingdom Hearts but with all the characters from Nintendo and Sega games! Panzer Dragoon meets Star Fox, Metroid meets E-SWAT, it'd be amazing! I never got into mobile gaming, no matter how hard I tried. My PSP gathers dust and when I did use it, it was from the comfort of my own sofa. I upgraded my phone recently, so delved into the Android app store to give this new fangled gamery a go. Angry Birds left me cold, Robot Unicorn Attack was alright I guess. Words with friends, hells yes, but it's not gaming gaming is it? Enter BattleHeart, simple controls, pretty cool graphics and deceptively deep action role-playing gameplay. I'm sold. L.A. Noire will have to wait. RE: steak. I have had a Japanese Xbox 360 for a  couple of years, never looked back. I am loving all the shooters that the UK will never see, I use the hard drive off my UK Xbox 360 and just swap it on to the Japanese machine no problem. There are few region free games if you want to dip your toe, mate. I import a lot of stuff from Videogame Imports.com or you could use Play-Asia.com , they pay the import tax and you can get free shipping.  Hope that helps. Just wanted to say thank you for the poster. I completely forgot about it. Thought I was going to the Post Office to collect some boring mortgage letter that had been sent recorded delivery. When the postman produced the tube with the poster in it I actually thought deeds to a house came on a scroll. Hope to have a games/boys room in my new home it will take pride of place. Thanks again for the house warming gift.

I used to love swandiving Lara into the ground from on high on Tomb Raider 1 (especially at the waterfall), it made me feel better for all the failed jumps, which also piled her into the ground, or worse!

It's all a question of when, not if, the first download-only home console appears. I never got into mobile gaming, no matter how hard I tried. My PSP gathers dust and when I did use it, it was from the comfort of my own sofa.

E3 2011: Liveblog – Nintendo Press Conference

For the 25th Anniversary of Zelda, they are preparing a Link's Awakening for the Game Boy Color Advanced. They've created a Zelda game for every console iteration. September on DSi, 4-player co-op for free download for Legend of Zelda: Four Swords.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Was Originally Going To Have Updated Music

I feel like the Falcom remakes on PSP have spoiled me, since all of them (except for Gurumin and Sora no Kiseki) have alternate soundtracks you can swap between. Why couldn't Nintendo do the same? That's what pisses me off about Persona 2: Innocent Sin

10 of the best handheld games ever

It was later brought to the PSP and iOS platforms. Quite possibly the best handheld outing for Link, The Minish Cap featured a classic Zelda mix of dungeon exploring, puzzle solving and combat, while the titular chapeau allowed our hero to shrink

What we'll see from E3

I'll be curious to see if Nintendo decides to do for “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” what they did with “Twilight Princess,” releasing it both on their current console and their new one. In any case, I'm sure there will be lots of new games and

Big in Japan June 13-19: Zelda 3D - on Drippler Microsoft XBOX Updates

Level 5’s PSP mech game Danball Senki takes top spot as Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake propels 3DS to top of the hardware chart.

Even with a new entry in Sega’s popular Yakuza series, the top two spots of Media Create’s Japanese sales chart for the week of June 13-19 were occupied by offerings from Level 5 and Nintendo. Taking first place was Danball Senki for the PSP with 166,187 units sold. The action role-playing game is about a boy named Ban Yamano who controls a customizable LBX robot and has to battle other kids with LBX robots. As a bonus for customers, the game comes with an AX-00 model that gamers can assemble from scratch.

Settling at second place is the remake of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which sold 164,110 on its debut in the sales charts. A 3D version of the Nintendo 64 original, the game includes extras like modified Master Quest dungeons and a Boss Challenge mode.

Also making its debut is the adventure game/visual novel Steins; Gate Hiyoku Renri no Darling for the Xbox 360. The title allows gamers to affect the direction of the game via the choices onscreen, as well as use phone triggers to make choices through answering random phone calls and clicking on highlighted text from phone text messages. Unlike the past Steins; Gate title with dark overtones, the game’s story is lighthearted and contains romantic elements.

While the PSP has seen a boost in hardware sales to 31,741 units from the previous week’s 26,681 systems sold, it wasn’t enough to top the 3DS. Driven in part by the release of Ocarina of Time 3D, Nintendo’s new handheld topped 40,000 units sold for the week.
